Building an online nutrition business takes a lot of energy and time, and the worst thing you can do it WASTE time by doing unnecessary things or by NOT doing very valuable things. For this week’s blog post I want to go into detail about 3 things I think EVERY registered dietitian nutrition coach should be doing in order to make 2020 and every year after full of results, success, and growth. If you’re not doing these already, START NOW! Seriously, these are extremely valuable tips that will help you and your business out immensely. Without further ado, read on to figure out what they are!
#1 Have Clarity of Vision
One of the major reasons many individuals fail with their business is due to the fact that they did NOT have clarity of vision about their business and the goals they wanted to achieve. This is crazy to me because clarity of vision is one of the FIRST things you should think about when deciding to become an entrepreneur.
You’re probably thinking, “Well I’m good with this tip Tony, I set so many goals for myself, that means I have clarity of vision! Right?”
Not exactly! Setting goals is great, but without clarity of vision achieving those goals is most likely not going to happen. Usually, when individuals set goals for themselves they’re centered around things that they want to have or do, however, clarity of vision is a type of goal that you truly desire. “The problem with this approach is that when things get tough you will not push yourself that extra mile for something you would like to have. You will only push yourself that hard for something you truly desire.”
When you make your goal purposeful and revolved around something you are extremely passionate about you are much more likely to accomplish what you’ve set out to do.
To develop your clarity of vision know exactly what you want, how you want it, and how you’re going to get there. Write your vision down, say it out loud, tell your friends and family, scream it off of your rooftop! Know the vision you wish to create and set goals and take actions that will get you to what you truly desire!
#2 Stick to Your Zone of Genius
Take advantage of your natural abilities that give you joy, and do not focus on areas that you are not very skilled at, that confuse you, and/or stress you out. By focusing on the latter, you will be unhappy and distracted from accomplishing your vision that we talked about above. Ultimately, feelings of unhappiness lead to overwhelm, which leads to quitting your entrepreneurship dreams. This is why it is so important to focus on an area that makes YOU happy and excited to work.
I’m sure some of you reading this can really relate to the above paragraph.
For example, maybe you started off your nutrition coaching business working with fitness enthusiasts and athletes because that’s what you thought you were interested in, however, you ended up finding that this was draining for you and making you stressed and unhappy. You were no longer focusing on your business as you should have been.
You decided to switch up your business to focusing on coaching individuals with gut health issues because you had always loved this topic and you felt skilled and knowledgeable about it, and it made you excited! Once switching your focus to your zone of genius you felt inspired and happy to work on your business each day.
Identify what comes most naturally to you; this could mean your focus may be on intuitive eating, intermittent fasting, the FODMAP diet, etc. By building your business around your zone of genius your work becomes almost effortless and it allows you to stay focused on your game plan, which will ultimately lead to success. If you are happy and excited about your work, everything will fall into place!
#3 Grand Vision
Your grand vision should inspire, excite, and unite you, your employees (if you have any), and your clients together. Be on the same page about your values, purpose, and goals for your business because this will create motivation for achievement.
Having a grand vision allows you to easily create a road map and plan of action for the next week, month, year, etc. No matter what you desire for your business, you should want growth, and a grand vision will help you get there. A plan of action is of the utmost importance if you want success in your nutrition coaching business because this will literally help you write out the steps you need to take and the action items you need to follow in order to work toward your grand vision. If you do not have a plan of action for 2020, get to it!
“A vision is like a lighthouse, which illuminates rather than limits; It provides direction. Almost all successful individuals and organizations have one thing in common: the power and depth of their vision. A positive, meaningful vision of the future, supported by compelling goals, provides purpose and direction in the present.”
